Podcast 1:Mata & MakkaJune 2009 Hosted by Mata, and featuring a guest mix by Makka, our first label podcast is split into two sections. Part 1: Part 2:
About MakkaMakka also took the time to answer a few questions about the mix: 1) Briefly tell us a bit about yourself I
grew up as a country bumpkin, moved to Manchester and became a House
head thanks to the Hacienda and Canal Street. I then got an Atari ST
and a Roland JX-8P and made lots of one-track riffs and noises. After
selling that I got a Korg M1 and started making tunes. Hooked ever
since! I then got a couple of old elastic band turntables with no pitch
control and started to get into mixing by using my fingers to control
the pitch (great fun). 2) How would you sum up the style of this podcast?Just me playing some lovely House tracks made by some very clever people! Usually nice and simple mixing at the start, until I can’t hold back my desire and enthusiasm to try the unordinary and come up with new grooves with tracks that you would not usually play together, just to see if something new comes out of it. 3) What activities have you been up to lately?I have been mostly giving my granny band a good working over (don’t ask!), working on a couple of House tracks, couple of music video tracks about a stripper in a circus, getting a couple of DJ sets organised for going on the road, rewiring and moving the studio so the cats have a better access to the bass bins and the jar of catnip, and generally getting as much sunshine and whisky as possible. 4) Which 2 artists have you been listening to most this week, and why?Chelonis
R. Jones – Just has a fab style and is pulling out some great tracks
that just stand out from the norm. Production work is wonderful and
gives you lots of inspiration for making crazy records. I also like the
way they make their grooves, very cool. 5) If you could tweak the human species through breeding, what animal would you mate us with and why?It
has to be a slug, because humans could then evolve to be able to
understand slugs and be able to tell them to get off our vegetable
plots. The drawbacks are of course obvious; we wouldn’t be able to have
salt with our tequilas and we would be hunted by hedgehogs.Peace, love unt House. Makka
